The Top 10 Skincare Trends for 2023

the-top-10-skincare-trends-2023

Get ahead of the curve with our key insights into the top trends to watch for in 2023 when it comes to skin care routines.

Skincare trends can be tricky and anything but timeless (we’re looking at you, snail mucin). Here at MD Glam, we’re about creating healthy habits and empowering our clientele to embrace their natural beauty. The trends we’re tracking most closely support these goals and, we believe, will be here to stay.

Excitingly for us, there are a number of new skin care trends on the horizon, or already rising in popularity, that fit the bill when it comes to taking proper care of yourself. Read on to see our faves and what we’re predicting will lead the charge into and throughout 2023.

The Skincare Trends of 2023

1. Creating Minimal Skincare Routines

When it comes to skincare routines, many of us struggle to make sense of the difference between different creams, serums, and cleansers. The result is a cabinet full of products with little to no use and a routine that ranges from frustrating to ineffective.

The skinimalism trend is designed to reverse all of that. With a less is more mentality, skinimalism encourages us to only use the most effective products that address specific concerns and that can do double duty, reducing the total number of products in use and doubling down on those that can multitask. This also ties in nicely with its sister trend of sustainability. By consuming fewer products, you can also contribute less waste. It’s a win-win situation.

2. Leveraging More Retinol Products

retinol-top-10-skincare-trends-2023Retinol has risen to the top when it comes to products that multitask effectively. A carefully derived form of Vitamin A, it can do everything from treat and prevent acne to help with signs of aging. When it comes to skincare trends, retinol products will continue to remain a trending beauty product in 2023.

Look for products that incorporate retinol to help with a bevy of anti-aging struggles. You’ll start to benefit fairly quickly from its collagen boosting effects, helping the skin to plump itself naturally. The results can be anything from a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles to a reduction in inflammation and sagging skin.

3. Protecting the Skin Barrier

Skin is designed to protect our bodies from foreign objects and elements. But skin is made up of layers that are often overlooked during the skin care process. One of the latest skincare trends is working to combat that oversight by prioritizing care for the skin barrier.

The skin barrier is the top-most layer of the skin that helps keep everything in good working order. Overusing products like cleansers and exfoliants that destroy, rather than replenish, this important layer can leave it dry and depleted. Instead, the trend to protect the skin barrier asks us to be mindful of the products and processes we use to keep it vibrant and active.

4. Turning to Powerful Vitamins and Natural Antioxidants

Going “au naturel” is a growing skincare trend in 2023 that is poised to take over. More and more, people are realizing the power of vitamins as natural antioxidants and looking for them in their skincare products. Antioxidants are essential because they can help stop signs of aging as well as help the skin repair itself when there are issues such as sun damage, dark spots, and inflammation.

Consumers are looking for skincare products that contain Vitamins C and E for their antioxidant properties as well as Vitamins A and B for their anti-aging effects. Products that can multitask by delivering two or more of these at a time are the real winners.

5. Going Natural and Make Up Free

Tied into the move toward minimalism is the trend to use fewer products when it comes to cosmetics. This not only helps reduce the impact on your budget (and the environment), but it also can help improve the overall quality of your skin.

This skincare trend rose out of the pandemic and has been making waves by placing the emphasis on proper skin care routines rather than cosmetics that cover things up. Embracing imperfections and perfecting your routine with products that are multipurpose and can bolster the skin’s appearance are more in vogue than ever before.

6. Addressing Skincare from the Inside-Out

A renewed emphasis is also being placed on taking care of your body to improve your overall appearance. Individuals are realizing that what they eat and drink, how they sleep, and their response to stressors can impact not just their quality of life but their complexion as well.

This inside-out new skin care trend asks us to take a look at the habits we have formed outside our daily skincare routines and question the foundation we’re creating for our skin. Eating a balanced diet rich with vitamins and minerals and remaining hydrated are just a few ways you can address skincare from the inside.

7. Layering on the Right Way

layering-skincare-trends-2023Just because you embrace skinimalism doesn’t mean that you have to eliminate all of the products in your repertoire. One of the ways to incorporate trending beauty products in 2023 is to ensure you’re using them in the right order for maximum impact.

Exfoliate before cleansing. Apply sunscreen before moisturizing. It’s the little things when it comes to layering the skincare trends in your routine that can make all of the difference in whether the products you use are effective for you.

8. Looking for Quality Over Quantity

At MD Glam, we’ve proven that quality skincare doesn’t require dozens of products with complicated instructions. The Full MD Glam Collection is comprised of six high quality products that are designed to multitask and work together to give you the complexion you crave.

The idea that less is more is popping up throughout new skin care trends, with an emphasis on high quality products that are designed to get the job done right the first time around. Bespoke products designed to address very specific skincare needs are taking over in popularity.

9. Hydrating with Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is not only here to stay, but it’s popping up in more trending beauty products for 2023 than ever before. This power ingredient helps moisturize and hydrate the skin to reduce swelling, add elasticity, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles (just to name a few benefits).

While our bodies actually produce hyaluronic acid in regular quantities, supplementing your skincare routine with moisturizers that include the ingredient can help promote younger, healthier, more vibrant skin.

10. Protecting Against UV-A/UV-B Rays

protecting-uva-uvb-skincare-trends-2023Here at MD Glam, we’ve been champions of proper use of sunscreen since the start. The good news is that the industry is catching up with rising popularity in products, from basic sunscreen to cosmetics, that contain SPF. Sun protection is incredibly important not just for combating the signs of aging but also hedging against sun damage to the skin and higher risk of much more serious conditions like cancers.

Following the theme of products that multitask, consumers will be looking for sunscreens that preserve and protect the skin. But don’t be fooled by products that incorporate SPF at a bare minimum. Look instead for those that have at least SPF 50 so you have proper protection from the sun’s harmful rays.
