Protect Your Skin: Why Skin Health Is Important
Why do you need to protect your skin? Dr Cat Answers
This is from one of my tummy-tuck surgeries and I wanted to show you different layers of skin and how important role our skin has when it comes to protecting our body. There are three main layers of the skin.
Epidermis is the top layer of the skin, the part of the skin you see. Its super thin on some parts of your body like eyelids and thicker on others such as the bottoms of your feet. The epidermis is the layer of skin in charge of making new skin cells, giving skin its color and protecting your body.
Dermis is the second layer of skin. It’s much thicker and does a lot for your body, for example helping you feel things and bringing blood to our skin, growing hair, making sweat, making oil.
Subcutaneous fat is the bottom layer. This layer has a special connecting tissue that attaches the dermis to your muscles and bones, helping the blood vessels and nerve cells. The subcutaneous fat is also the layer that helps keep your body from getting too warm or too cold. It also stores fat that pads your muscles and bones and protects them from bumps and falls. Maybe this will give you a more clear picture of how important our skin is and how important it is to take care of it daily.
